13 - GRAMMAR REVIEW - Zero, First and Second Conditionals




Zero conditional – present conditionnal (always true)
If you heat water to 100°, it boils.
If you eat a lot of chocolate, you get sick / get a stomachache.

If  +   Present simple,  present simple


First Conditional – future (probable, possible) condition
If it rains tomorrow, I won’t go to the park.

If + Present simple, future tense (will/won’t, be going to , present continuous, can/
could)

If it doesn’t rain, we can/could go cycling.
When / As soon as / After  / Before  /  Until  / Unless (if-not)

Second Conditional – present situation I want to change/ improbable present
If I were rich, I would buy a new house.

If  +   Past simple,   would + base form of the verb

If people recycled more, there would be less pollution.
There would be less pollution if people recycled more.
