METHODOLOGY in CLIL classroom:

Using short film clips or videos to develop listening and speaking and literacy skills

Not only can short films or videos be useful in developing learners’ listening, speaking and literacy skills in L2, but create quality teaching and learning environments.

The Internet has an endless source of material for any teacher’s classroom. The Internet is a playground for teachers where material can be downloaded for educational purposes.

Preparing a variety of different activities (such as, warm-up exercises, brainstorming, pre-teaching useful vocabulary, hot-seat activity, sentence forming exercises, gap-fill exercises, word searches and crosswords, group, pair or individual work) involving before watching, while watching and after watching can be more motivating to students. Moreover, to evaluate their productivity, written or oral homework assignments and/or written or oral tests can be given to assess what they have learnt.

The best part of all is that this sort of lesson will be fun for students who are learning to think and be responsible for themselves in the learning process. All the methodologies involved in using short films or videos are incredible and thought-provoking. It would be also interesting encouraging open discussion among students to allow them to think and communicate more freely about a certain topic (therefore, lessons can be based on a thematic approach).
